The pictures of past Weymouth Speed Weeks are from a number of people all of whom are great supporters of Weymouth Speed Week - sources include Tim Daish, Nick Povey, Helena Darvelid, Dave White, Andrew "Spotto" Fisher, Andy Stallman, Bob Spagnoletti, Pete Davis and unknown others responsible for some of the historical pictures. We thank them all.

Weymouth Speed Week 2022 our 50th Anniversary Event

Well what a fantastic week!

It had a bit of everything with drama until the last moments. Would the harbour records be broken? We had fun at the 70s opening party, nostalgia with a return of Icarus and Sailrocket and innovation with the inclusion of the wing foil fleet and new GPS devices - how would they work?

Young Scotty Stallman broke the (windsurfing) harbour record set 10 years ago by Anders Bringdal in the last half an hour of competition on the last day, with a fantastic 38.64 knot run.

Bruno Andre on his wing foil was desperate to break 30 knots and set a new unofficial world record on a wing foil and he managed it with nine minutes to go on the final day!

The only slight disappointment was James Longmuir who missed out on beating his own record by .03 of a knot but he is still fastest of the week with 41.19 knots and will return next year to try again.

Prize giving took a while with so many prizes from our sponsors to give out. The coveted tankards for Technical Achievement went to Michael George for the work he did to modernize the GPS system and the Portland Pot for the "Spirit of Weymouth Speed Week" went to our amazing Race Officer Karen Battye.

The 50th anniversary of this historic event couldn’t really have gone any better, record number of participants, fantastic winds and a great atmosphere.
